The 41st annual National Travel and Tourism Week (May 4 - 10) is almost here - which means that it’s time to celebrate travel’s essential role in your local economy and community. And although May 4th is just around the corner, it’s definitely not too late to take action.
Here are a few quick, easy ways your DMO can join the celebration and get the message out:
- Highlight local businesses + attractions:
Spotlight the restaurants, hotels, tour operators, and quirky shops that make your destination worth the trip. Take out a small corner in your local paper to feature one each day—or shout them out on your LinkedIn and Instagram. Got a favorite? Let them know with a quick visit and a thank-you note. - Celebrate tourism employees:
From hotel front desk heroes to tour guides and restaurant crews—these folks make your destination shine. Deliver cookies or thank-you kits to local hospitality teams, organize a “Tourism MVP” post series on your social channels, or stop by with a simple “thanks for being a great host to our visitors” message. Little things go a long way. - Educate your locals on tourism’s impact:
Locals might not always love the extra traffic, but they do love what tourism brings—like more jobs and fewer taxes. Help them make the connection. Post bite-sized stats on social, host a quick Q&A at a city council meeting, or organize a trail clean-up and use the moment to talk about how tourism helps fund that very trail. - Work with media to spread the word on the impact of tourism:

According to U.S. Travel Association, travel is a $2.9 trillion industry that is essential to America’s success, supporting over 15 million American jobs while powering important industries, uniting people, benefiting society and contributing to the United States’ global competitiveness. It plays an essential role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating job opportunities, inspiring new businesses, and elevating the quality of life for Americans.
So let’s get out there and celebrate this NTTW!
